Summary:
The book “Effect of heavy metals on seed germination and antioxidant properties” has been intended to increase the awareness on heavy metals pollution and its deleterious effect on initial seedling of plant among agricultural scientist and environmentalist. Heavy metal contamination affects the biosphere in many places worldwide. Heavy metals including lead, nickel, cadmium, copper, cobalt, chromium and mercury are important environmental pollutants that cause toxic effects to plants. The present book summarized the effects of heavy metals on seeds of different plants affecting the germination process as well as plant growth. Therefore there is a need to implement certain rules that help in the reduction of metal level from a wide range of sources such as from the metal processing industries and power generation plants. Seedling growth is considered as an indicator of metal stress on plant vigor. Therefore there is a need to undertake further studies to establish the state of knowledge on the responses of plants to metal toxicities. This book will helpful for Food scientists, agricultural scientist, micro biologist, nutritionists, chemists, biochemists.
