Early literacy is a current trend in early childhood education that prepares students to develop read and write skills in the future. Exposing young children to letters, sounds, vocabulary and the storytelling prepares them to develop basic skills in literacy. These types of activities develop the ability of children to listen and speak and to become acquainted with the original concepts of printing. Printing initial concepts include reading from left to right, understanding that words convey a message and understanding that the illustrations match the print. Early childhood education prepares students for learning experiences in theK-12. This exposure helps students develop the necessary skills to learn when embarking on their journey to become lifelong learners. Early learning, science education and an integrated curriculum are current trends.
