In the monograph the basic problems of physics of the Earth’s interiors are formulated and analyzed. The new 1D reference model of the Earth with transversal symmetry STW105 is examined, which is the up-to-date alternative of the model PREM. The 3D tomography models and regional seismic models of the upper mantle are as well expounded. Considerable attention is paid to the attenuation of free oscillations of the Earth and seismic waves as well as to the dispersion of seismic velocities and solid state physical mechanisms of attenuation. The book is intended to the wide circle of specialists, students, postgraduates, and lecturers in geophysics, geochemists and geologists as well as to the specialists in the scope of comparative planetology. It can be used as a reference book for scientists.
