Activated microglia cells produces pro-inflammatory cytokines and neurotoxic mediators like nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin (PG) E2, superoxide anion, monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1), and pro-inflammatory cytokines, such as interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) which may stimulate brain lesion pathophysiology, produce neurotoxins and lead to the neuronal damage. However, Rumex abyssinica, Lipidium Sativum and Guizotia abyssinicus have natural phytochemicals with anti-inflammatory activities that can protect organisms from neurodegenerative disease.
Professional in food and nutrition, worked with Duksung Women’s University research center on functional food development with Gondar University (Dr. Solomon Mekonnen) to establish food bio-resource and drug development center. My research interest is food bio active compounds from medicinal plants, antioxidants activity to establish food security.
