This book originates from a research work conducted towards my Master of Education thesis in 2014 at the University of Goroka in Papua New Guinea. The research evaluated the implementation of ‘Supervision and Management Reform’ (SMR) in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville. The SMR initiative challenges school heads to be innovative in the management and leadership roles in their schools. SMR adopts a holistic view to develop excellent schools with proactive and visionary leadership that can be measured through outcomes such as high academic achievement, positive student attitude, teacher professional growth, positive school culture and improved resource management and student welfare. The ultimate goal of SMR is to change each school into a “school of excellence” that provides quality education for young people in schools. A ‘must read’ for scholars in educational management, educationists and school principals who would like to see dynamic changes in school organizations. The SMR blueprint is a generic model valid beyond Papua New Guinea.
Joy Purauko Asiure
Joy Purauko Asiure acquired her MEd degree in educational leadership and management from the University of Goroka. Currently, she is a lecturer in educational management in the Division of Educational Leadership and Management, Social Development and Gender Studies in the School of Education at the University of Goroka in Papua New Guinea.
