The Microfinance Self-Help Group have played a major role in alleviating poverty in many developing countries. This research publication brings in to the fore the phenomenon in urban areas of a developing country. The effectiveness of these Microfinance Self-Help Groups in bringing about reduction of poverty in its multi-dimensional aspects have been studied. The City chosen is in the southern India with a large population under low-income groups. The change brought about by Microfinance in this section had been found to be very effective.
The authors have many decades of academic and corporate experience and have been associated with many Non Governmental efforts to bring about a change.
